Bradley Angle & New Deal Vodka Festive Happy Hour

July 30 2009 Pink Noise Boys

JK and I stopped by the Bradley Angle & New Deal Vodka Festive Happy Hour, where they (Bradley Angle) revealed their new logo, honored staff and celebrated Bradley Angle’s 34 year history empowering individuals and communities to take action eliminating domestic violence from their lives. Altough the heat was over powering this afternoon the message of the event was well recieved as was the tunes preformed by The Pink Noise Boys.

Google Voice.

Finally got my Google Voice account activated today; watch out Skype! Already loving the free features of this new Google creation and was looking forward to adding the Google App to my iPhone but then this letter surfaced from a Google Spokesperson earlier today…

We work hard to bring Google applications to a number of mobile platforms, including the iPhone. Apple did not approve the Google Voice application we submitted six weeks ago to the Apple App Store. We will continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users — for example, by taking advantage of advances in mobile browsers.

Of course, it’s not hard to guess who’s behind the restriction… my good friend AT&T. Google Voice scares the carriers. It allows users to send free SMS messages and get cheap long-distance over Google Voice’s lines.

If you are unfamiliar with Google Voice here are some major features from their site.

One number for all your calls and SMS

* Call screening – Announce and screen callers
* Listen in – Listen before taking a call
* Block calls – Keep unwanted callers at bay
* SMS – Send, receive, and store SMS
* Place calls – Call US numbers for free
* Taking calls – Answer on any of your phones
* Phone routing – Phones ring based on who calls
* Forwarding phones – Add phones and decide which ring

Voicemail as easy as email, with transcripts

* Voicemail transcripts – Read what your voicemail says
* Listen to voicemail – Check online or from your phone
* Notifications – Receive voicemails via email or SMS
* Personalize greeting – Vary greetings by caller
* Share voicemail – Forward or download voicemails

Make sure to get in touch with me via comments on the blog or email for my new number.

Sky City | Jazz Alley.

July 21 2009 01

Who seriously goes to the Space Needle and doesn’t take one photo of it… Yeah that’s me. But I did however get some pics from the top of the Needle at the legendary Sky City restaurant, including the Lunar Orbiter, a dessert that has been served up the same way since 1962.

Dinner and live jazz were next on the list with our second visit to Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, last time being in 2006. No pics from the event, but just picture a dark room with lots of live jazz and food being served (I’m great at painting images aren’t I). All in all you really can’t go wrong with jazz, especially when they do a cover of “Knocking On Heaven’s Door”!

Away We Go… Back On A Boat.

July 20 2009 01

Today was another full day for boating, movie watching and blogging… Is this what my life has come to be?

Starting with the new Sam Mendes directed Away We Go starring The Office standout John Krasinski and former SNL cast member Maya Rudolph. The plot goes like this… A couple who is expecting their first child travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family. Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover “home” on their own terms for the first time. Overall I found it to be quite funny, a great adventure and one of my favorite Mendes directed films next to American Beauty.

Following the flick we headed back out on the water for a boat trip around Lake Union and Lake Washington. The ride is about 2 hours long and takes you by some famous features of Seattle including the houseboat used for the movie Sleepless In Seattle, pictured above.

And if all that wasn’t enough for the day, we ended with a dinner at the Purple Cafe. Dinner included visits from both Morgan and my Pops who just happen to be in town on his way to Aklaska… More pics from the day below. Enjoy.

Yachts.

July 19 2009 01

Enjoying the outstanding Seattle weather (for once) with Morgan and some time amongst the for sale Yachts along Lake Union before heading to my hotel to meet up with the one and only Ronald Curry.

Yacht prices ranging from 500k to 3 million. Nice.

Maui Sunsets.

July 17 2009 01

Had a little drive around the island of Maui today and I’m finally starting to get used to being on the right side of the road again… We also took some time out of the drive for lunch and shopping in Wailea and  for a few family pics along the way. Overall Maui was a nice welcoming back to the States and always good to have some Vandeberghe time. A big thank to my Pops for the trip and all the golf!

Album Of The Week.

JJ Grey and Mofro Orange Blossoms

It’s that time again… And with it being a crazy travel schedule as of late I’ve had even more time to zone out and listen to more new music. This week’s selection comes from JJ Grey and Mofro (can you think of a better band name than Mofro?) with their latest release Orange Blossoms. A thanks goes out to my Pops for introducing me to JJ Grey, as I don’t think I would of ever come across this amazing album without the heads up.

With some of the album’s tracks brining to mind the Allman Brothers, Delanie and Bonny, Dr. John, or the Black Crowes, but for me personally JJ Grey and Mofro remind me of a mix between two of my favorites, Amos Lee’s lyrics and Ray LaMontange’s soulful band. Overall Orange Blossoms is what most bar bands in the world think they sound like; but don’t. It’s down home, in the best sense, performed flawlessly, with an admirable disregard for fashion.

This week I’ve included two tracks from this disc to help you get the full effect of JJ Grey and Mofro.
